Victory will be a sweet reward

Selati Super Cup becoming sweeter for the teams and bitter for those who have been axed

The stakes are slowly becoming higher as the Selati Super Cup is becoming sweeter for other teams and bitter for those who have been axed from this lucrative soccer tourney.
Proudly sponsored by the sugar-milling giant, TSB, this annual amateur soccer tournament hosted in the Nkomazi subregion has so far produced enough entertainment on and off the field to keep many soccer-loving people glued to their armchairs and the grandstands.
With only 16 teams left before the new champions are crowned, the tournament organisers believe the tourney has so far lived up to expectations and has run smoothly without any glitches except for minor hiccups here and there.
“We are happy with the pace and progress with which this tournament has been maintained and run. It shows that our soccer is forever growing.
So far the support has been enormous and we can only hope and plead with our communities to continue to support these games,” said Christabel Hlatshwayo on behalf of TSB, the main sponsors.
She said these games were well received and supported even when they were hosted at open fields in some parts of the sub-region.
“We would like to appeal to local communities to adopt this tournament and take ownership of it.
“We also wish to thank local soccer supporters in advance for making this a success and want to plead with them to continue behaving in a dignified manner because this tourney is about community development and not really about who wins in the end,” Hlatshwayo added.
This year’s champions will walk away with prize money of R75 000.
The finals are scheduled for June 8 at the Driekoppies Stadium.
