This year, marks the eighth installment of this tourney which has brought much excitement in the region and will once again be accompanied by a lucrative budget, which will have the champs take home a whopping R75 000 while the runners-up pocket R50 000.

As rightly anticipated by Mpumalanga News that come rain or shine, the TSB-sponsored soccer tourney, the Selati Super Cup will return with a bang from March to June, the main sponsors, TSB had declared.

Making this much-anticipated announcement, TSB’s general manager, Vusi Khoza said they would give soccer fanatics an opportunity to vote for their favourite teams that they wished

to see in the contest.

“Just like last year, fans will need to vote for their teams to be in the tournament. All you have to do is send an SMS to 44461 according to the prescribed voting format.

“A minimum of 500 votes is needed for each squad to enter.

“Getting teams to be voted for, creates a lot of excitement in the community around the event before the games start. In a sense, the public begins to play long before the first whistle is blown. Secondly, the teams’ support base is strengthened as they have to canvass for votes. It means squads with a solid following will take part,” explained Khoza.

This year, marks the eighth installment of this tourney which has brought much excitement in the region and will once again be accompanied by a lucrative budget, which will have the champs take home a whopping R75 000 while the runners-up pocket R50 000.

In fact, all teams will receive some form of payment regardless of the stage they have reached in the tournament.

“Apart from prize money, there are other unique and exciting features about this year’s Selati Cup. First, more squads will take part – 128 of them, double the size of last year’s number. No doubt more crowds will be attracted to the games, with more than

10 000 people expected to attend the final in June.

“For the first time this year the Selati Cup has a broadcast ally, Nkomazi FM. This community radio station will feature the event in its programming, broadcasting matches and talking to various participants in the tournament.

“Another reason for fans and players alike to attend the games is the chance to rub shoulders with soccer star, Tlou Segolela, who is the face of the cup this year,”

said Khoza.

Soccer fanatics should SMS “Selaticup” followed by the stream which will be in alphabetical order and then their preferred team which will be in numerical order to 44461 before midnight on March 2.
