Primary school girls soccer team emerge as champs

Zwelisha Primary School‘s girls soccer team are the champions of 2013 Mbombela Masters Legends Football U/15 girls football tournament.

They also boast having produced the best players of the tournament, including the best player Eunice Mabuza, the goal keeper Nomonde Zitha, the midfielder Sthembile Sandleni and the best couch of the tournament, Vusi Gama.

“We are over excited as a school; it’s a surprise that we were able to beat all the schools from the four Streams. Our players were very committed, hard work paid,” said Gama who is also an EMS and Social Science teacher at the school.

Zwelisha’s team outplayed the second best team in the streams Buhlebuyeta Primary School by 2-0.

According to the organisers of the tournament, Regina “Fish” Mokoena of the founder of Mbombela Mama’s the tournament started around April with a number of schools four streams (A to D) around Mbombela.

“Our year theme was ‘Developing among shaping football skills among girls,” she said. She also expressed her utmost gratitude to the Mbombela Local Municipality for supporting the games with trophies, medals and soccer kit for the eight top schools and the winners which were presented after the finals.

Words of gratitude were also expressed to Mpumalanga News for supporting the development of soccer at grassroots’ level.

“We sincerely appreciate your newspaper’s coverage for our tournament its does not market us, but motivates the learners to take sport very serious,” she said.

Mbombela’s representatives, Tiger Thompson and Moses Mazibane attended the finals. In his words of support Thompson said: “We thank the organizers for trying to breach the vacuum in the Women’s Football development in our municipality. We also thank schools principals and parents for allowing their children to participate in sports,” he said.
