Local woman's team emerges as victors at soccer tournament.

Schools are gearing up for the upcoming finals of the Sembcorp Silulumanzi 2013 Cup to be played at KaNyamazane Stadium on Saturday.

“Anything can happen. Go out there and prepare for the games,” said Silulumanzi’s sport coordinator, Jacob Hlatshwayo when addressing captains and coaches of the finalists during a media briefing at the company’s offices in Nelspruit on Monday.

Lowveld High School’s netball team will be out to defend the trophy against their rivals, the Metropolitan netball team.

Lowveld’s captain Casandra Muway said her team is desperate to maintain the trophy which they had won last year.

On the other hand, Prudence Dladla of Metropolitan is adamant that the trophy will be theirs.

“We lost it last year but this year we are fully prepared to take it home,” she said.

At present Lowveld High boasts with top goal scores.

In soccer, East High boys who lost the trophy to Gedlembane last year are adamant to fight for the trophy against Mntungwa High School, who are in turn also eager to prove their talent.

East High’s captain Surprise Khoza said, “We expect the games to be tough but my team is ready and the players know exactly what is expected of them”.

On the other hand Mntungwa High School’s captain Colleen Mxhunu said his team was excited to reach the finals for the first time since the inception of the tournament and would do all in their power to take the trophy down to Chweni for the first time.

Finals will start as early as 09:00 and buses will depart from participating schools to the stadium at 07:00 .

Learners and spectators are urged to behave themselves.

“Alcohol will not be allowed in the stadium,” emphasised Hlatshwayo.

Trophies, cash, sport kits, medals, certificates and balls will be awarded to the winners and the player of the match, the top goal scorer and the coaches.
