Ntshalintshali bids for Boks trophy tour in the province

Duane Vermuelen and Faf de Klerk both from Mpumalanga played pivotal roles in helping the Boks beat England in the final with Vermuelen being voted man of the match.

Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali will hold discussions with rugby authorities and national government about bringing the Springbok Trophy Tour to Mpumalanga.

“I have noted with disappointment that Mpumalanga has been omitted from the Springbok Trophy Tour. It is disappointing that thousands of rugby fans in the province have not been afforded a chance to celebrate with their local players.

I have taken up the issue with the South African Rugby Union, the minister of sport and recreation, Nathi Mthethwa and President Cyril Ramaphosa during his visit to the province on Friday to ensure that locals have a chance to rub shoulders with the Webb Ellis Trophy and the players, especially sons of the Mpumalanga soil Sibusiso Nkosi, Duane Vermuelen, Trevor Nyakane, Faf de Klerk and Kwagga Smith,” said Ntshalintshali.

She added that she hopes the people of the province will get a chance to celebrate with the players.
