The new MTN 8 champions, SuperSport United will face off with Lamontville-based Golden Arrows in a Telkom Knockout quarter-final fixture today at Mbombela Stadium.

Matsatsantsa and Abafana Besthende will battle it out to advance to the semi-finals. In the PSL, United have two wins, draws and one loss in the last five games. Meanwhile, Arrows have three draws, one draw and a win.

The Tshwane-side recently won the MTN 8 trophy after they put Highlands Park to the sword with an early goal headed by Bradley Grobler. His goal was also rewarded handsomely by the sponsors of the cup, who had put an offer of R25 000 for every goal scored in the final. This gesture was part of the 25th-anniversary celebrations by one of the country’s biggest mobile companies.

Grobler’s partner, Thamsanqa Gabuza, also went home with a cheque of R25 000 for his man-of-the-match award. The team’s success puts them in a better position of advancing to the semi-final and, possibly, snatching a second trophy. Meanwhile, Arrows also had a good run in the tournament when they knocked out Polokwane City 2-1.

The team risked possession, especially from the left side, but managed to control and survived the threat. They created more chances but had poor execution. Knox Mutizwa was the main culprit, wasting two scoring chances.

Matsatsantsa and Arrows seem to be on form to take on Saturday’s task. GladAfrica Championship outfit,
TS Galaxy will carry their CAF campaign scheduled for Sunday at 15:00 at the same venue. They will be hosting Nigerian-side Enyimba Football Club after they thrashed them 2-0 in Nigeria. The Rockets thrashed CNaPs Sport 4-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round, while the Nigerian giants got the second bite of the cherry after being knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Al Hilal Omdurman in the first round.
