The South African national team, Bafana Bafana will play their crucial African Cup of Nations qualifier at the Mbombela Stadium against struggling but unpredictable Sudan.

Scheduled for Saturday, November 15 at 15:00, this stadium has proven Bafana Bafana’s happy hunting venue as they haven’t yet lost a game here.

Their first-ever win at this stadium was back in 2010 against Thailand, but their famous victory was when they beat Sierra Leone on October 08, 2011 during the Afcon qualifier.

Bafana have also registered two more wins against Gabon and Mozambique and will be looking to continue their good form here.

The Mbombela Stadium outbid both the Cape Town and Port Elizabeth stadiums for the rights to host this crucial game and it was considered on merit that Mpumalanga people can fill up the stadium and also for the good omen the stadium has had for Bafana.

This is a definitely must-win for Bafana to avoid dropping points. A victory here could mean that they are through to the finals next year, with just one game to spare. They are currently Group A log leaders on eight points with Congo behind them on seven points.

Speaking on behalf of the stadium management, Mthuthuzeli Qamba encouraged all soccer loving people of the province to rally behind the team by buying tickets for this crunch match as early as possible.

“This is a very important game for the national team and it’s also an important game for the stadium and the province. We need to show the world that Mpumalanga is a passionate soccer destination.

“We will communicate and give further updates on this fixture through the media,” said Qamba. The Mbombela Local Municipality has also appealed for support from local fans.

“The reason why we bade for this game was to offer the province and its people a game of international magnitude. So it would be sad if people do not support this game as we will then not be considered in the future.

So we need to make a mark by filling the stadium to the rafters,” appealed MMC for sport, Zayd Boroko. Mpumalanga News and the Mbombela Stadium are giving away 10 double tickets to this game.
