The Selati Cup men and women were rewarded for their excellence and volunteerism during a glittering award ceremony at the Malelane Rugby Club last Friday.

Sponsored by TSB, these awards drew the attention of the tournament’s sponsors, South African Football Association representatives as well as government and private-sector representatives.

Speaking during the awards, TSB’s CEO John du Plessis said his company strove for excellence and it was therefore no coincidence that the Selati Cup had been such a great success.

“We are, of course, working with our partners to try and make a difference and build a better community and a better world out there.

“It is also important to thank the sponsors, the teams, the players, the media and the TSB team behind the organisation of the Selati Cup and the awards.

“The success of the tournament is due to your input and on behalf of TSB, I would like to thank you all for your contribution.

“The reason why TSB is part of this tourney is that we have recognised that we are part of this community. The company cannot work and function without the people and the support of the community and without the involvement of the youth, because they represent our future.

“TSB tries to add value by creating jobs, but we know that this is not always enough.

“We need to look for other opportunities, and sport is one of those areas.

“Sport encompasses the development of life skills and ability, and yes, we know we start small but this is where it all begins.
“We need to create a foundation for the young people of our communities to offer hope and a possible future and that’s what the people are working towards.

“The Selati Cup has come a long way and it has become a success due to hard work by our people and various other organisations.
“I must congratulate the winners of the competition. It’s not just one team that won at the end of the day but all of those players that participated,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of Trans African Concessions (TRAC), David Mashaya said, “Since this competition began, and when we partnered with TSB to sponsor this tournament, over the past few years TRAC has formed a good strong and mutual benefiting relationship with TSB which has led to the growth and success of the Selati Cup.

“We are impressed with the commitment shown by the Nkomazi-based football teams, and the support they have among the communities.

Sponsoring this tourney is our way of showing our gratitude to the people who support us as a concessionaire. One of our values is to uplift the corridor communities and we take our social responsibility very seriously.

“Although I was not present at all the games, I noticed the impact the tournament had on local small businesses.
“I am confident that they hugely benefited from it and this is what TRAC wants.

“We also sponsored the tourney with the view that talented players will be able to demonstrate their skills and perhaps get noticed by big teams in the country’s elite leagues,” he concluded.
