According to Springbok assistant-coach Johan van Graan, the Boks are growing in confidence in terms of their decision-making on the field of play.
The Boks may have laboured to an unconvincing 31-30 win over Wales in Nelspruit on Saturday having been the lesser team throughout, but they did show moments of brilliance which in the past has been a rarity for the Green and Gold.
The Springboks have in the past been criticized for an over-reliance on the kicking game, but under Heyneke Meyer their decision making on when to kick or when to have a run has seemingly taken a turn for the better.
“When we started in 2012, we needed to put a few things in place. Rugby is a game where decision-making is key, and we need the right players to make the right decisions at the right time. The decisions on when to kick and when to run is a lot better than in the past,” Van Graan told SuperSport.com
“We have worked hard on it in training and coaching only goes so far, the rest is the players and their brilliance.”
