Faty set for second operation

One of Bidvest Wits’ star midfielders Papy Faty will have his second operation in the next few weeks as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.

The Burundian international sustained the knock in a goalless draw against Orlando Pirates in the League on 30 April.

“Papy has only passed the first stage of surgical treatment,” Bidvest Wits doctor Lee Pillay is quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

“He is progressing even better than expected at this stage. He will be going for the second procedure in the next two to three weeks.”

Meanwhile Clever Boys striker Calvin Kadi also went under the knife after hurting his knee in the Nedbank Cup Final loss to Pirates on May 17.

Kadi’s procedure happened with the past couple of weeks and Pillay had this to say with regard to their return to action.

“Return to play timelines are always difficult to predict. Different players respond differently to rehabilitation and it’s also dependent on the extent of the injury.

“At this particular point I will not like to suggest a return to play until such time as we begin the actual first phase of rehabilitation for both the players. Return to play dates change as the rehabilitation process progresses.

“Having said this, both players have always had very positive attitudes towards rehabilitation and this always counts as a plus, and from experience, these types of players usually supersede expectations.”
