The truth will out

Finding out who you are and where you came from has always fascinated me.

Finding out who you are and where you came from has always fascinated me.

Last year I contacted a Genealogy expert, and for a modest outlay the staggering results came back and promptly bit me on the bum.

It seems I am a bastard. Yep!

I was born out of wedlock. Moreover, that old granny who lived upstairs in the attic was my Dads first wife who had galloping consumption. It was only when six years after I was born, and when Aunt Eva died that my parents did the honours and got married.

Naturally I was taken aback by this news, but my Genealogist proved the fact beyond all doubt, and sent me a certified copy of my birth certificate, and then the Marriage Certificate of my Mom and Dad.

Now here was a proper `turn up for the books’. All my life I had been living a lie thinking that I was legitimate. Dammit It`s no wonder I have been shunned, scorned and spat upon!

I suppose one would call this a skeleton in the family cupboard, and thinking back to what might have happened a couple of generations ago, I am rather glad that it has taken this long to emerge.

Finding out who you really are takes some courage, and unless you have a really strong constitution, I don`t advise it. Just leave everything hanging and you won’t go far wrong…hopefully.
