Brush up on your bristles…

Now if you are like me, and I sincerely hope you are not, you probably change your toothbrush when the bristles begin to get soggy and there are signs that your teeth are going green.

I read somewhere that we spend something like ten years of our lives sprucing ourselves up in front of a mirror! I suppose that’s reasonable considering how important it is for most of us to look our best under trying circumstances.

Taking the fact a step further, I wondered how many years we spend dithering around in the super-market, attempting to purchase a new tooth brush.

Now if you are like me, and I sincerely hope you are not, you probably change your toothbrush when the bristles begin to get soggy and there are signs that your teeth are going green. Just the merest hint of halitosis and the Missus comes down on me like a ton of bricks.

“Throw this brush away before it contaminates the sewage system,” she says, handing me my green handled well worn toothbrush.

“But Lovey….”

“Don’t Lovey me, all it’s good for is scraping the mud off your takkies.”

She had a point I suppose, so at the earliest opportunity, I went shopping for a new one.

Believe it or not, I found quite a crowd around the toothbrush stand last Tuesday morning, and I wondered if they had a `special’ on?

Pushing my way to the front, I found the reason for the delay. No-one it seems could make up their minds regarding the toothbrush that suited their life-style.

Automatic or manual, straight or curling, springy or stiff handles and in multi colors made my mind whirl, not to mention the various types of bristle glued on at the end.

Eventually, I chose a scientifically designed, easy reach (for those back molars) with a pale blue handle that matched my PJ`s. I thought, with a little effort I might polish my shoes at the same time.

Getting home, I thrust my newly acquired state of the art toothbrush towards the Missus.

“You oaf!” she roared. “You’ve chosen the same colour as mine!”

It seems, the galaxy of coloured handles available is an all important factor when it comes to choice.

Who cares about the bristles, it’s the handle that counts!
