#RightDownTheLine: Teams should redeem themselves in Nedbank Cup

Those who are not doing well in the league have this time to shine or convince supporters that they are still worthy.

The Nedbank Cup has come down to the last 16 teams. There were interesting wins, but the fact remains that it is still a competition.

All is in order for Mbombela United, who won against Cape Town City on Saturday. They got a win when they needed it most and, with a bit of confidence and morale, they might go a long way. Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates was thumped by Bidvest Wits in a penalty shoot-out. The new coach seems to have settled in and his strategies are working for the team, as they have had a consistent run. They are also tailgating Kaizer Chiefs in the log, which automatically makes them title chasers. But the Nedbank Cup is the “redeemer’s tournament.”

Those who are not doing well in the league have this time to shine or convince supporters that they are still worthy. Sadly, not all teams will make it, but that last push is always needed. TS Galaxy won it last year, but I do not see them defending the cup with Dan Malesela’s resignation. They are on the brink of relegation. Though remember, they were in the same predicament when they won the cup last season. All in all, teams must strive to strike a balance between tournaments and their league campaigns. The GladAfrica Championship teams should be ready for promotion this season. The technical side of things must be hard at work in ensuring that balance.
