Right down the line: SuperSport United brings their A-game

A bittersweet situation for Thamsanqa Gabuza, but I am glad that coach Kaitano Tembo gave him all the support.

SuperSport United are the new MTN 8 champions after beating Highlands Park 1-0 on October 5.

The Tshwane-side has proven once again that they are one of the strongest teams in the league. We must commend Thamsanqa Gabuza for playing his heart out after receiving news of his son’s passing. It was a bittersweet situation for him, but I am glad that coach Kaitano Tembo gave him all the support. He kept the news to himself, knowing that there was a final match against Highlands.

We know that Gabuza is a good player, and may he found healing and comfort in this trying time. Meanwhile, Percy Tau is ticking all the right boxes in his Belgian team, Club Brugge, in the UEFA Champions League. The supporters love him and he is playing against skilled footballers, such as Sergio Ramos and others. He is a player and a half, and certainly not coming back to the local league anytime soon.

Back to local, I was left with questions as to why Owen Da Gama benched Reneilwe Letsholonyane. He stuck to his usual line-up and ‘Yeye’ was out in the cold. Looking at his track record, he has played in cup finals and the experience is there. Whether it was a smart move or not; maybe he could have added value to the line-up. But we will get an opportunity to see how Da Gama is going to utilise him in the league campaign.
