Last Thursday was a very fulfilling day for me and my team when we went out on
a promotional campaign in our townships to test the waters if, indeed, we are still the
people’s paper.
Surely the stunts we pulled by appearing as our real selves, served the purpose as one team posed at the popular Karino intersection on our meet-and-greet campaign was welcomed by motorists as they also marvelled at the enthusiasm of our journalists posing as models, yet they are downright journalists enjoying and being proud of distributing their product.
The team also went to the KaBokweni Taxi Rank where they enjoyed a good rapport with commuters, taxi drivers and owners. I also led a team that visited the Ehlanzeni Regional Offices of the Department of Education, where we visited each office handing out free papers and interacting with them on our working relationship. The reception was phenomenal and warm, to say the least.
KaNyamazane Police Station, the library also received us warmly, too.
The next stop was the Shisanyama next to the clinic and the vendors were delighted to be photographed to appear in their favourite newspaper.
Pienaar Police Station and KaBokweni Police Station were also upbeat with our visit, ending it, of course, outside Themba Hospital and the Shisanyama, too. The objective was to familiarise ourselves with the areas we cover in the newspaper, including a quick stop at
Stintile High School where we delivered some motivation to the matric learners.
Mind you, you’re not seeing this for the first an last time, but it will be a frequent engagement with all stakeholders in order to work hand in hand with our communities. Getting to know our readers and interact directly with you will enable us to produce a better product every Thursday.
