The opposition parties had come out guns blazing to unseat them from their throne, this time around, but they were eventually saved.

It’s been quite a tiring week with the elections being held. Many celebrated their successes, while others cried foul. Some miscalculated the elections and thought change would come on a tray, yet it was not to be.

Every party had rightly prepared for a total onslaught but there can only be a few winners. This was a wake-up call for the ruling party who has been voted back into power, but with a reduced majority by a few percentages.

The opposition parties had come out guns blazing to unseat them from their throne, this time around, but they were eventually saved.

The past elections have afforded the communities real services from the powers that be, in that local government elections will be held in 2016, and they would seek to win back some of their stronghold wards around the province, even countrywide.

One cannot help but notice that if the Bushbuckridge Residents Association (BRA) was able to receive 15 368 votes and 1,15 per cent that got them one seat in the legislature, far surpassing older organisations like COPE, UDM, PAC, APC and others, it needs closer scrutiny.

My guess is that, BRA being composed of ordinary community members could likely take over the local municipality if they could be as united as they were last week.

The EFF, on the other hand, also has its focus on the local government elections of 2016, and judging by their performance in the national and provincial elections, they pose a threat.

The ruling party is concerned, they realise that they need to not work only two-fold, but three-fold if needs be. This is multi-party democracy at its best. Only the strong will survive the day.
