The election campaign is gaining momentum by the day and each political party is playing its meaningful role in trying to convince the electorate to vote for them.

I must hasten to warn them that the electorate should not be taken for granted.

They’ve had to contend with many empty promises for far too long and most have not been accomplished, which needs diligence on the leaders’ part to deliver what is needed.

As we speak, after the floods that hit many provinces, including our own, infrastructure has been damaged by the storms and in some areas you notice the poor standard of workmanship of some service providers – because infrastructure is supposed to withstand most adverse weather conditions. That infrastructure needs to be fixed to restore normality in communities, but there are still those residents who have to endure damaged streets and streets that need urgent attention.

Vehicles get damaged with no compensation from the authorities because motorists do not exercise their rights.

The manifestos have been launched and debates are underway. All we need is, action, action all the way because cheap talk won’t change the situation of the electorate, but direct implementation of projects is the right way to go.

There are a lot of areas of concern that need to be focused on as we stride ahead. We still have the ongoing problems in the health sector, with overworked personnel, inefficient treatment of the community by personnel and lack of proper infrastructure in many areas.

Skills development, especially for the youth, needs to be put in place in various communities across the province and the country as a whole. Job creation needs to be addressed immediately, especially for unemployed graduates who have spent so much in qualifying, but remain jobless.

Economic opportunities need to be in the offing for everyone, not just a select few. Housing should be completed in all communities because not everyone can afford the exorbitant prices asked by property developers.

Overall, people’s lives have to be improved for the better and only your votes can make this change possible. Change is needed now, not later.
