Deeply built into the human being, is the desire to excel. Friends, this is the essence of the nature of man to compete, if not with others at least with himself. When one competes with oneself and trying to improve one’s present performance, then one has entered the highest level and mother of all competitions. The least we can do for ourselves is to resign from a competition with people and compete with ourselves.
Excellence is a state of no fault, error, blame or excuse; it is about a person deciding to be exceptional. It is exceeding set standards and violating set norms and breaking records. It is about doing common things uncommonly well, doing natural things supernaturally natural. I am talking about you being the best, second to nobody, preeminent and towering above all. This is not just becoming champion but remaining a champion. Two verses demonstrate the call of excellence: Daniel 6:3-5, 1cor4:19. Excellence develops through a process:
An excellent mind produces excellent actions, excellent actions produce excellent habits, excellent habits produce excellent character, and an excellent character produces an excellent name. A good name sells, wins, attracts, buys and a good name arrives before the owner of the name comes. IF YOU LOOSE YOUR WEALTH, YOU LOST NOTHING, IF YOU LOOSE YOUR HEALTH YOU LOST SOMETHING BUT IF YOU LOOSE YOUR NAME YOU LOST EVERYTHING. Excellent people face fewer competition, they raise the bar they are pioneers pace and trend-setters while the rest remain simple copycats. We might not achieve excellence in every area; however it is important that we find at least one thing that we are the best at. Mediocrity, commonness and remaining average will extinguish you but excellence will distinguish you.
Excellent people are leaders, models and mentors of inspiration. They are masters of the art of continuous self-re-invention and re-engineering. None wins by doing what is required but by going beyond. Excellence says: do more than what you are paid for because sooner or later you will be paid more for what you are doing. Always learning, always changing, and always growing always improving and always never stopping. When South Africa stops growing she starts dying, if you stop starting you start ending. Excellence believes that: IF BETTER IS POSSIBLE THEN GOOD IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH, IF BEST IS POSSIBLE THE BETTER IS NOT BETTER ENOUGH.
