Dagga worth R500 000 seized in Nkomazi

The police successfully inercepted the suspect transporting the dagga in Mangweni.

A 38-year-old suspect was arrested when the Mpumalanga police followed up on a tip-off about a vehicle transporting dagga from Masibekela towards KaMaqhekeza in Nkomazi on Thursday October 10.

According to the Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the police responded swiftly to the matter and a silver Toyota Hilux matching the description was spotted in Mangweni.

“A high-speed chase ensued which led the driver with no option but to surrender and stop. A search was then conducted and the members found 20 bags containing about 200.7kg of dagga worth about R500 000. According to information, most of the bags were probably going to be delivered in the North West Province.”

The vehicle the suspect used to transport the dagga.

“The vehicle that was transporting the consignment was also confiscated for further investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle belongs to the suspect’s father.”

Mdhluli said the suspect is due to appear in a court soon, facing a charge of unlawful dealing in dagga.
