Man suspected of stabbing and killing appears in Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court

Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the victim had succumbed to his injuries in hospital and was certified dead by the medical personnel.

A 26-year-old man who is suspected to have stabbed a 25-year-old at a tavern in College View, causing him to die in hospital later, appeared in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 7.

Lesedi Mokone was arrested on Saturday, October 5, the same day the incident occurred, and is facing a murder charge.

His case has been postponed to October 15 for bail application.
According to a provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the victim, identified by his family as Bright Mnisi from Mkhuhlu near Hazyview, succumbed to his injuries in Mapulaneng Hospital and was certified dead by the medical personnel.

Mdhluli said the motive behind the killing remains unknown at this stage and forms an integral part of the ongoing investigation.

The acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, expressed his concern about the prevalence of crimes that emanate from liquor outlets and urged liquor traders to adhere to regulations and prioritise the safety of their patrons.

“We continue to work tirelessly to combat crime and bring offenders to justice, but looking at the time this particular incident reportedly occurred, about 03:40, then one begins to ask some questions as to whether the liquor owner was in compliance?

The police remain committed to ensuring justice is served for the victim and his family,” Mkhwanazi said.
