The CoM’s executive mayor, Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko, also mentioned the progress report on the implementation and rollover of token identifier reprogramming of electrical prepaid meters. Certain council members asked about the deadline to implementation, but she referred the matter to the next council meeting for further discussion while they consult with Eskom.

The members also discussed negotiations for a possible contract extension beyond 2029 with the water supplier, Silulumanzi. The mayor recommended that the city manager be mandated to commence with such negotiations with the water utility to extend their contract. Makushe-Mazibuko also said the negotiations should be concluded by both parties within 60 days and that a report in that regard is to be submitted to council within 30 days after conclusion of such negotiations.
