Pienaar pupils gain valuable knowledge on career day

Mtfophi Primary School hosted its annual career day to give its learners some career information.

The pupils of Mtfophi Primary School embodied the futures to which they aspire as they dressed up as professionals of various careers such as doctors, attorneys and engineers.

The school hosted its annual career day last Wednesday, September 18, with a career expo for the Grade Six and Seven classes in the hall.

Several speakers gave presentations on careers in agriculture, traffic law enforcement and firefighting.

A life orientation teacher at the school and the organiser of the day, Christine Simelane, said the initiative was vital for learners from various backgrounds to be exposed to career information, as young as they are. “Although this activity is a requirement in the curriculum, it helped the pupils gain knowledge on many career options, and they can share the information they received with other learners and family members. We hope they learnt something from the speakers. Most of the pupils managed to put together creative outfits that portrayed their passions and interests,” she said.

“We saw a lot of pupils dressed as highly skilled professionals such as doctors and engineers. We hope they will work hard and achieve their dreams, which is what we aim to encourage throughout their schooling journey.”

A highlight of the day was the demonstration by the firefighters of the City of Mbombela’s Fire and Rescue Department, during which the pupils got to see how a fire and rescue truck is operated.
