Pienaar creative takes over music scene and agribusiness

Sipho Mdhluli not only dreams of making it in the music industry, but also of creating jobs for young people, especially in his agricultural business.

A club DJ and agriculturist from Pienaar, Sipho Mdhluli, also known as DJ Mavicks, is set on taking over the entertainment industry and agribusiness.

The versatile musician is cooking up an exclusive amapiano single to be released before December. He hopes this song will move amapiano music listeners in the festive season. “I love music, especially house music. I also do amapiano music, because I want to stay relevant,” he said.

He said he got into music with his late father’s influence, who supported him in all his dreams.

Mdhluli ventured into the industry in 2010, playing at weddings and local events. He grew his portfolio with residencies at local pubs and clubs. He hopes to become a well-known DJ. “I want to travel the world and play good music. The best way to get to where I want to see myself is to work hard and get my name known.”

Instead of furthering his studies in music, Mdhluli opted to pursue his other passion of being agriculturist and graduated from the University of Mpumalanga in 2016. “I have my own business that focuses on fruit harvesting on various farms in Mpumalanga. What I love about this business is that I create seasonal jobs for locals. I employ an estimated 500 people a year. I love creating these opportunities to boost our economy,” he said.

Mdhluli is becoming a game changer in his own right, especially in job creation. He recently opened a car wash in Pienaar, at which he employs three people.

“My dream is to create more avenues for people to be uplifted. I used to host social events that were aimed at uplifting the lives of creatives and locals before the Covid-19 pandemic. I will definitely revive those events to create more opportunities for young people.”
