Fikile Mshwane joins Christian radio station in Mbombela

Fikile Mshwane returned to radio this year and says she wants to motivate young girls to believe that it is possible to achieve their goals.

An experienced radio presenter and businesswoman from Masoyi, Fikile Mshwane, returned to the microphone after taking a break to start her own business.

She recently joined a Christian community radio station, Voice of Hope, presenting a programme known as The Women Divine Show, which airs from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00.

It also features health issues on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Our Little Kitchen on Wednesdays as part of its many offerings.

Mshwane told Hazyview Herald she had returned to radio this year. “It’s been an amazing journey with my new radio gig that caters to the gospel only. It is my first time working in such an environment. I guess God relocated me for a reason. I have learnt a lot and I have grown in the spiritual journey. It’s not just a radio station, it’s a home full of warm people to work with. I fell in love with radio in 2010 when I used to visit one of the local studios and stood at their window viewing, and that pushed me to pursue the career, because it’s something that I wanted,” she said. She started her career in 2013 and worked at a local radio station until it closed down.

Mshwane advised fellow young women to have a passion for the radio and not just do it for fame, as fame fades. “They need to be themselves and be creative. Radio needs more than just a voice; it also needs commitment and consistency.”

She said she wants to inspire young girls from rural and urban areas and show them that it is possible to achieve their goals in an industry dominated by men.

Her career also included joining KaNyamazane Community Radio (KRadio) in 2017 in current affairs, proving her worth in the industry. “People know me for my radio personality and I got nominated in the Sunrise Excellency Awards for Best Radio Personality in 2019. During Covid, I worked for Vibrant FM and made history by winning an award in the Golden Star Awards for Best Radio Personality in 2020. Then I took a break from radio to establish my business,” said Mshwane.

During this break, she did community work, building houses for the less fortunate and donating food parcels. She also targeted teenagers to mentor them, including about teenage pregnancy issues. She is a co-founder of the Miss Game pageant. She is also the CEO of Promisive Limited Designs, manufacturing custom-made furniture.

“I’m currently manufacturing headboards from scratch. I did an upholstery skill development course and also own an online store, Fikile’s Boutique, selling clothes,” she concluded.
