Nkomazi activist aids communities with water tanks

Sizwe Nyambi recently secured a total of 15 water tanks for various wards in Nkomazi.

Passion and activism are the main drivers for Sizwe Nyambi’s relentless work in local communities.

In an effort to address one of Nkomazi’s main issues, Nyambi bridges the gap by visiting businesses, asking them for assistance to better the lives of the people in the area. His recent project secured a total of 15 water tanks for various wards in Nkomazi, a generous donation that had been made by Malalane Toyota.

“There are so many issues that our communities have to deal with on a daily basis. I started this project in 2023 as I was touched by how our people are struggling because of water scarcity. While acknowledging that the local municipality is doing everything it possibly can to make the lives of the people better, we also need to step in and play our part as community activists and leaders. I decided to approach Malalane Toyota to help me alleviate the water issues in several communities. They responded and donated 15 tanks; a move I honestly did not see coming, but am utterly grateful for,” said Nyambi.

Wards 29, 28 and 32 were some of the beneficiaries of this water tank project. “Another motivation for me was the fact that the tankers often come to deliver water during the day and the challenge is that those who are at work then don’t get any water. The 15×5 50-litre eco-tanks will come in handy for community members. We have also made arrangements that the Nkomazi Local Municipality’s water tankers will fill up these tanks in communities so that the residents will have access to the water at any time.”

Nyambi, who is also the president of the student representative council at the Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve Campus, said he plans to continue working for the people of Nkomazi.

“I am happy to say that this is not the first initiative I have undertaken for this community, and I plan to continue because I do it from the heart. I have also been giving food parcels to the needy, and with the help of Malalane Toyota, donated food parcels, chairs and tables to an old age centre in Schoemansdal,” Nyambi said.
