Mpumalanga Grade 12s encouraged to take advantage of prep exams

The education MEC, Cathy Dlamini, urged all learners to follow the rules and regulations of the prep exams and to take full advantage of this opportunity to work hard.

The Mpumalanga Grade 12 class of 2024 sat for their first preparatory examinations, which started on Monday, August 19.

The timetable stretches over four weeks and the last paper will be written on September 18. The prep exams are written under similar conditions as the final exams at the end of the year.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education (DoE) said the rules and regulations during the prep exams include no copying or partaking in irregular activities.

These exams provide an opportunity for the learners to measure their knowledge using similar tools as the end-of-the-year exams. They offer learners an important tool to verify their state of readiness and to get the required remedial assistance before they write their finals.

In a press release ahead of the prep exams, the MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, urged the learners to take full advantage of this opportunity.

“We want the best for our learners and we are confident that these prep exams will help them immensely. We thus need to work as a collective as parents, teachers and learners to ensure that they improve their performance using these exams as a stepping stone.

We urge them to take this opportunity on with both hands and we wish them all the best,” she said.

The prep exams also assist learners in improving their school-based assessment marks and finishing the curriculum on time so that revisions are done to benefit them to be better prepared for the final exams.

The DoE’s spokesperson, Gerald Sambo, said parents are requested to support their children by affording them an opportunity to study at home.

“They are encouraged to create a conducive environment and provide support for their children to study, and to motivate and encourage with a winning mentality.

The learners and schools are advised to prepare thoroughly for the exams and are urged to continue studying individually and in groups.” He said learners must continue attending lessons according to the schools’ arrangements.
