MEC Macie urges women police officials to stay safe

MEC Jackie Macie recently encouraged all women officers to use the necessary working tools in their possession to ensure their safety in the field.

The MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Jacky Macie, has called on all women law enforcers to always be alert when on duty.

Macie told them that their safety comes first and that they must not die in the line of duty when they have the necessary working tools in their possession. “Inasmuch as you are tasked with ensuring that the public is always safe, you have the responsibility to protect yourselves first. It is your responsibility to protect your lives so you can protect the community. In the process of enforcing the law, you must not lose your lives. When we say you must treat everyone with respect when applying the law, that does not mean you must be undermined,”
said Macie.

Operation Basadi is an all-female operation the SAPS conducts annually during August in conjunction with other law enforcement officers from the departments of home affairs, traffic, correctional services and CPF members. “I will be a very disappointed MEC to have to come and bury one of our law enforcers at the hands of criminals or unruly motorists. You must not die on duty when we have given you enough ammunition. Please protect yourselves and make sure that our roads are safe and put behind bars those who deserve to be there,” stressed Macie.

Traffic officials stop and check vehicle compliance during the operation.

This province has seen an increase of murders of police and traffic officials, which Macie said must come to an end.
