Mpumalanga Grade 12s encouraged to take advantage of prep exams

The MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, urged matric learners to follow the rules and regulations during the exam period and to take full advantage of this opportunity to work hard.

The Mpumalanga Grade 12 Class of 2024 sat for their first preparatory examinations, which started on Monday.

The timetable stretches for four weeks and the last paper will be written on September 18. The prep exams are written under similar conditions as the final exams at the end of the year.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education (DoE) said the rules and regulations during the prep exams include that no copying or irregular activities are allowed.

These exams provide an opportunity for the Grade 12 learners to measure themselves using similar tools as the end-of-the-year exams.

They offer learners an important tool to verify their state of readiness as well and to provide the required remedial assistance before they write their finals.

The MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, urged the learners to take full advantage of this opportunity. “We want the best for our learners and we are confident that these prep exams will help them immensely.

We thus need to work as a collective with parents, teachers and the learners to ensure that they improve their performance using this exam as a stepping stone. We really urge them to take this opportunity with both hands and we wish them all the best,” she said.

The prep exams also assist learners to improve their school-based assessments marks and to finish the curriculum on time so that revision is done to benefit them to be better prepared for the final exams.

The DoE’s spokesperson, Gerald Sambo, said the parents are requested to support their children by affording them an opportunity to study at home.

“They are encouraged to create a conducive environment and provide support for their children to study, motivate and encourage them to plant a winning mentality.

The learners and schools are advised to prepare thoroughly for the exams and are urged to continue studying individually and in groups.”

He said the learners must continue attending lessons according to the schools’ arrangements.
