eMalahleni Afropop sensation releases new hit album

The artist said the album will revive hope for people who are in relationships and remind them not to give up on each other.

An Afropop musician has released an album, Smezi Kazi Palisa, and believes it will give people hope for their relationships.

Steven Zulu Shongwe (31), known as Smezi, said the album reflects the challenges he faced in his relationship and how he overcome them.

“In this album I teach people not to listen to bad advice given in their relationships, and I encourage people to stay true to their beliefs and not let other people define who they are,” he said.

He said some of his favourite songs on the album are “Kemaratong”, “Kebatla Wena” and “Lerato”. These tracks are about his experiences with his girlfriend and their relationship.

This local artist started his professional music career in 2010 as a backing vocalist for the late gospel artist, Mzayoni, who later mentored him as a musician. In the same year, he released his first album, Uyacombola, and in 2022 he released Umzwangedwa.

He said the album Ezibhuhlungu azipheli, which he released in August 2023, got him more recognition in the community.

Shongwe is currently nominated for best Afropop artist for the Mzansi Arts and Media Awards.

He is also nominated in the Gazata National Music Awards for the best Afropop single.

Shongwe wishes to work with well-known artists around the world and said his future plans include inviting more artists into his studio to help them with their music.

He said the new album can be found on all digital platforms.
