Runners enjoy GBVF 4-in-1 half-marathon at Mbombela

The key purpose of this successful event was to educate the public about GBVF.

The spirit was high during the 2024 Gender-based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) 4-in-1 half-marathon held on Saturday, August 10.

Runners from all walks of life came together to stand against GBVF and raise awareness. The event had four distances; the 21km, 10km, 4.9km and a street mile. Some of the runners started running from White River and some from Mbombela, and the finish line was at Mbombela Stadium.

This half-marathon was hosted by Bella’s Athletics Club and was sponsored by the Ehlanzeni District Municipality and other stakeholders.

Runners raise awareness.

According to Bella’s, one of the key objectives was to bring awareness to the community and educate the public about the signs and consequences of GBVF, with the aim of preventing incidents before they occur.
Before the half-marathon was held, a dialogue to educate, seek solutions and contribute towards supporting victims was hosted.

Bhekukumuzi Khoza was the winner in the junior male 21km and Reghen Magwali took first place in the senior event. Mineke de Ruiter took the lead in the junior female 21km and Segwana Tladi took first place in the senior event.
