The City of Mbombela (CoM) said it welcomes the decline in cases of residents affected by the recent bout of diarrhoea in Barberton over the past week.
The CoM’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said their investigation into the recent diarrhoea cases is ongoing, and they are still testing water regularly.
“So far, our pre-incident water samples have met all safety standards. The investigation of our treatment plants to produce water of highest quality has resulted in exploring upgrades and new technologies to maximise their effectiveness and stay ahead of the curve. We will continue to test and update the residents until we find the root cause and ensure our water is safe for everyone.”

Ngala said the CoM welcomes the report from the Department of Health confirming that the unfortunate loss of a nine-month-old child was not as a result of the ongoing diarrhoea outbreak. He also said the municipality further appeals to community members to always remain calm and await factual information from the government at times like these.
