Nhlazatje hip-hop musician works on new hit

This local artist said his songs talk about how hip-hop culture has affected the way people speak and what they wear.

A hip-hop musician and a producer, Andile Mabuza, popularly known by his stage name, Ace Julz, is busy working on a new track he will release next month.

He promises his fans will enjoy this song, titled “For the Culture”.

The 25-year-old said the song is about culture and knowing one’s identity, and not only traditional culture, but the hip-hop culture as well.

“In this song I express how the hip-hop culture has influenced the way we speak and what we wear,” said Mabuza.

He said at the age of 14, he was inspired by Russ, Joyner Lucas and Cassper Nyovest. He said one of his classmates motivated him to release a song, and his first song, “My Moment”, got him recognition in his community.

Mabuza dreams to travel around the world and have his own studio. “Ever since I started music, my wish was always seeing many people enjoying my songs and being one of the well-known musicians around the world,” he said.

In 2023, he released an album titled Outta My System consisting of 14 songs. In the same year he got nominated for Best Male Hip-hop Act in the Mpumalanga Music Awards.

He said one of his achievements was when he got co-signed by some of eSwatini’s artists, namely Young Zesh, Sarnilo and LutionAudiobot.

Mabuza said his music can be found on all digital platforms.
