The organiser said the gathering's goal was to reconstruct and empower the institution of marriage as God intended.

Theo Basileio Ministries International’s (TBMI) couples’ seminar was one not to be missed.

Couples and single people gathered for a three-course meal at Zest, Mbombela, on July 27, indulging in empowering conversations detailing marriage advice and experiences.

TBMI’s Prophetess Charity Ngobe said the aim of the seminar was to work on rebuilding the institution of marriage as God intended it to be. “God is intentional about marriage, because it builds families and uplifts individuals. The goal of marriage is not to accumulate anniversary years, but to enjoy the union that God created. The Bible says he who finds a wife, finds a good thing. It is not a just a set-up at a house, but a fusion of souls. It unlocks favour and blessings,” Ngobe said.

The attendees took part in a fun exercise between meals, where the wives passed on appreciative messages to their husbands, which some admitted they hardly do.

The keynote speakers were a power couple who are pastors as well, Thobile and Cebelihle Shongwe, who have been married for 18 years. They encouraged couples to never leave their marriages to chance, but to work together to make it work. Cebelihle outlined ways how couples can deal with disappointment.

“No one is married to an angel, and that means your partner is bound to disappoint you in some way. This can lead to emotional disconnect and lack of trust. When faced with displeasure, find a common ground, speak about the issues and find solutions. Moreover, learn to articulate your expectations to your partner, which will make the communication more effective, and foster forgiveness,” she said.

Her parting message to the attendees was for couples to always find themselves in a covering of God through prayer.
