WATCH: Nkomazi TikTok influencer bounces back after losing account

The TikToker had just over 250 000 followers when he lost his account, but is determined to rebuild from the 9 000 followers he has accumulated since.

A TikTok influencer, Mkhuleko Mlambo, says he is still battling to recover from the loss of his account. He was popular for his stitching videos on the platform.

Mlambo says even though there was nothing malicious about his content, his videos were reported multiple times and he just could not keep up with the appeals.

“More than 20 of my videos were reported back to back, and what’s so surprising is that even a video on which I had just posted pictures of myself were reposted as harmful and harassment. That is when I knew it was just someone who hated my content. I had just over 250 000 followers at the time. I also hosted a prayer platform called Umkhuleko Wami, where we would preach and share inspirational messages with my followers. I would like to think that we are all affected negatively by the loss of the account, because that platform served as a safe haven for many of us,” he said.

Mlambo from Block A, said he used TikTok to make money. “I made money through live videos for which people would send gifts, which I would convert into cash on my side as I received them. This income made a huge difference in my life as I was able to pay my internet bill and other things. What pains me most is I know I did not break the rules of the platform, but somebody reported my account and now I lost it.”

“There is more to come from me. This incident only made me even more determined to do well as an influencer. I am now working with bigger brands and my main goal is to bring back the prayer sessions as well. I still have the same credentials on the platform and our prayer group is still called Umkhuleko Wami. we can only bounce back even bigger after any setback, and that is what I aim to do,” Mlambo said.
