Keep fighting the good fight, says MEC for social development to Mpumalanga NPOs

The new MEC introduced herself to local NPOs during a recent engagement session and encouraged them to co-operate with the department to combat various social ills.

The Mpumalanga Department of Social Development, led by its new MEC, Khethiwe Moeketsi, and the newly appointed executive mayor of the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Cllr Lydia Moroane-Zitha, held an engagement session with Mpumalanga-based NPOs in Thulamahashe Community Hall on Wednesday, July 17.

At the event, the MEC had the opportunity to introduce herself to the various NPOs in the province and stated that the engagement session was a platform for the stakeholders to discuss ways to drastically reduce the scourge of gender-based violence, particularly in the Ehlanzeni District.

Moeketsi encouraged them to partner with the department to fight social ills, such as the killing of women and children.

She further urged them to comply with the Nonprofit Organisation Act 71 of 1997 so they can continue doing their part without any challenges. “We appreciate the role you play in the different sectors. Continue doing what you do in the community.”

Moeketsi also congratulated Moroane-Zitha on her new role as Bushbuckridge’s mayor.
