MEC for health celebrates Mandela Day in Delmas

The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, spent her 67 minutes painting walls and donating food and resources to the community members.

The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, commemorated Mandela Day in Delmas in the Victor Khanye Local Municipality on Thursday July 18.

She pledged her 67 minutes to painting walls and serving hot soup to the patients in the outpatient department (OPD) at Bernice Samuel Hospital.

She visited the Botleng Society for the Aged to promote healthcare services and screening, served hot soup to the elderly and donated them blankets. Her last visit was at Botleng Ext 3’s clinic, to donate blankets to the Sizimele Old Age Group.

Speaking during the programme, Manzini appreciated the efforts from healthcare workers across the province for delivering quality health services and to honour the Mandela Day celebrations.

“Healthcare workers in hospitals and clinics have surpassed the 67 minutes by generously contributing their time and resources to make a difference, in some instances, in collaboration with local businesses, implementing partners, mines, farms and NGOs.

Mothers and baby packs with nappies and sanitary towels were given out in maternity wards. Across the province, our health workers treated our elderly patients with soup in our OPDs.

“We painted the admin block walls, the dental clinic, palisade fences, garden chairs, road marks and parking marks. We gave our elderly fruit packs and eggs and donated blankets and scarves. Others visited old age homes to serve warm healthy soup to our elderly just to show generosity and to be kind to humanity,” said Manzini.
