Media practitioner from Mpumalanga scoops yet another award in China

This TV host, copy editor and content producer said he is happy that he is making his mark overseas.

A Mpumalangan media practitioner, Gift Mona, was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement in Arts and Culture Award at the Pride of Africa Asia Pacific Awards, held at the Landmark Hotel in Beijing, China, on June 29.

Born in White River, Mona works as a director in the new media division of China Global Television Network in Beijing. He is a TV host, copy editor and content producer.

Mona attended high school at Penryn College and matriculated in 2011.

He studied a double major in performance arts and media and communications at the University of Pretoria. This 31-year-old got a job opportunity in Beijing after being referred by a friend.

This award is a testament to his significant contributions to promoting African culture and values within the Asia Pacific region. Mona also won the Outstanding Achievement in Media Award at the 2023 ceremony, highlighting his consistent excellence and influence in multiple fields.

The Pride of Africa Asia Pacific Awards celebrate individuals and teams who have made remarkable impacts in the region through their unwavering commitment to projects that highlight and advance African heritage.

This year Mona stood out among the nominees for his extraordinary dedication and achievements in the arts and culture sector.

His award-winning efforts have included a wide array of activities that have gathered recognition from the Pride of Africa.

These activities reflect his profound influence and leadership in fostering a deeper appreciation of African culture in the Asia Pacific region.

Mona said he feels very honoured to be the only person to be nominated twice and win awards in consecutive years.

“I am truly grateful to my community and family in Mpumalanga for all the support, the voting and words of encouragement,” he said.
