Tourism agency urges community to support the Mpumalanga Premier International Cup tourney

Mbombela Stadium is the place to be this weekend as four soccer teams will face off to be the first victor of this inaugural international tournament. Read more about it here.

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has urged the community and the country at large to support the inaugural Mpumalanga Premier International Cup scheduled to kick off at the Mbombela Stadium this Saturday, July 20.

This soccer tournament will feature four teams, with the DStv Premiership side TS Galaxy acting as hosts.

Other participating teams will be the German Bundesliga’s campaigners, FC Augsburg, the Tanzanian league champions, Yanga FC, and the Kingdom of eSwatini’s league champions, Mbabane Swallows.

“We are excited to host the Mpumalanga Premier International Cup. We are ready to welcome sports tourists in Mpumalanga to have the best time and make lasting memories. Our team will be on standby to assist tourists wherever they need assistance. The safety of our visitors is our number one priority, and these matches will boost the local economy. We call upon all South Africans and international sports lovers to buy tickets and come to Mpumalanga to witness these historic matches and explore the province’s tourist destinations,” said the MTPA’s CEO, Mduduzi Vilakazi.

He said this is one of the historic tournaments to be played at Mbombela Stadium, and Mpumalanga has a good track record of hosting big matches.

“South Africans and international sports tourists are expected to converge at the City of Mbombela to have a warm and memorable experience while exploring the scenic beauty of the province, delicious food and wildlife. The people of Mpumalanga are warm and welcoming and the province is home to tourists of all walks of life. We expect our local restaurants, shisanyamas, salons, accommodation establishments, entertainment spots and hawkers in Mbombela and surrounds to be busy during these games, which will be good for our economy and tourism,” said Vilakazi.

This Saturday’s doubleheader will see the hosts, Galaxy, entertaining Mbabane Swallows, while Yanga FC exchanges blows with FC Augsburg.

The kick-off for the first game is 15:00, and the second game is scheduled for 20:00.
