VIDEO: Locomotives pulled back onto railway within eight hours outside Mbombela

The operation required a new towing vehicle to pull a tipper truck and two locomotives after an accident.

After a coal truck fell onto a railway hitting two locomotives in Kaapmuiden outside Mbombela, the recovery process required all hands (and machines) on deck from the Van Wettens Breakdown Services team on Friday July 12.

“We used two Western Star Wreckers and our brand-new Volvo FH Wrecker. Phase one of the operation was to remove the coal tipper and phase two was to lift the two locomotives back onto their rails that each weighed over 120 tonnes,” Fourie said.

Details of the cause of the accident are still unknown.
