Business breakfast in Mbombela gives young entrepreneurs new skills

The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency hosted an event to educate and equip young entrepreneurs with some much-needed information.

Some young entrepreneurs came together in the Valencia Community Hall on Wednesday June 19 for an informative networking session during the Youth Month Business Breakfast.

This annual event was hosted by the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) under the theme ‘Promoting resilient youth entrepreneurs’.

It aimed to provide information on compliance and sustainability and to encourage networking. Guests had the opportunity to hear testimonials of MEGA beneficiaries, and some entrepreneurs had the opportunity to ask how they could also benefit from the agency.

Cynthia Nkuna, the general manager of the funding division at MEGA, said they wanted to commemorate June 16 and decided to reach out to young people and encourage them to play a role in economic growth.

“We want them to be aware of the different sectors and structures that exist so they can tap into this and be assisted. We want them to know the role of MEGA, how we can assist them and the opportunities that are available.”

During the event, some of the guests shared what they had learnt and how they benefitted. A beneficiary and entrepreneur, Prudence Modjadji, said: “During the event, I learnt about short courses for how to run a business. ”

At a previous event hosted by MEGA, she had pitched her business plan and won a laptop and received a sewing machine. “This assisted me in my business, in which I specialise mainly in bedding items.”

Nomcebo Khulu, an entrepreneur who offers public relations services, said: “I learnt anything is possible as long as we comply and send the right documentation. Dr Carol Nkambule, one of the speakers, made me realise the importance of documents when she emphasised the significance of preparing them.”
