Ehlanzeni District Municipality promotes environmental sustainability on World Environment Day

The occasion highlighted the urgency to take charge and protect the environment for the well-being of its communities.

The Ehlanzeni District Municipality’s acting executive mayor, Cllr Terrance Shabangu, has urged the public to avoid littering as it poses a serious threat to the environment.
Shabangu was speaking during World Environment Day celebrations held at the district’s Disaster Management Centre on June 13.

“The littering taking place alongside our rivers is unacceptable. We still have a long way to go about educating the public about the importance of environmental issues. The relationship with our stakeholders should continue to deal with these issues,” he said.

He said the municipality and its stakeholders remain committed to advancing initiatives that promote land rehabilitation, combat desertification and build resilience against drought in the communities.

“Through collaborative actions and strategic partnerships with our stakeholders, we endeavour to safeguard our precious natural resources, mitigate environment degradation and secure a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come. This day is very important; it is when we create environmental awareness and sustainability,” said Shabangu.
