Residents robbed at gunpoint in Malalane

The chairperson of the Malalane Community Police Forum, Mel Preddy, has urged the community of Malalane to be vigilant following the armed robbery.

Two Malalane residents were robbed at gunpoint while walking along Opdraend Street on Tuesday June 25.
According to the report, the perpetrators were three young men wearing dark hoodies. One was armed with a 9mm pistol with which he fired several shots to intimidate the victims. He also fired shots while fleeing the scene.

The chairperson of the Malalane Community Police Forum (CPF), Mel Preddy, said the victims of the incident have not been identified as they left the scene while the security companies were searching the area.

“They were robbed of possessions, including cellphones, while on their way home after shopping during the early evening. They were on foot. The attackers also fled on foot and managed to elude the searchers. No injuries were reported.”

Preddy added that there was another flurry of shots fired at around midnight, towards the centre of town. “A search team was, however, unable to determine the exact location, and no victims were found for the midnight incident.”

Preddy said the Malalane community should be vigilant and not leave gates or doors unlocked after dark.
