Nkomazi couple arm underprivileged children with free education

The initiative offers free preschooling and extra classes for children, while also uplifting future soccer stars with football skills and development.

As a way of making a difference, a couple, Simon Mabaso and Thandeka Maphosa, said they have started an initiative as they could see that the young people in their community have so much potential in their community of Hectorspruit in Nkomazi.

Mabaso said he has always dreamt of helping children. He is the owner and founder of Trust Mabasim in Dindela Village.

With the help of his wife, they started a free preschool for the less fortunate, where they look after children and prepare them for Grade R. They also give extra classes in the afternoon. The kids attend extra classes from Monday to Friday from 15:00 to 17:00, and on Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00.

Their mission is to teach children about the fundamentals of life from a young age. This couple is determined to improve the situations of those struggling to make ends meet.

Mabasa is also the coach of Young Tigers United FC soccer team.

“We decided to help these kids because we saw potential in them and we cannot allow their precious skills and talent to go in vain. We also believe that through our help and support we can uplift their self-esteem so that they can work harder to have a brighter future. We believe in the saying: ‘Together we can do better,'” he said.

“Trust Mabasim is a registered organisation and we depend on donations and support from the public, various stakeholders and businesses. We are currently in need of assistance; we need tables, chairs, cupboards, toys, computers and other equipment that could be used to help us prepare the kids for a better future. We strongly believe that it takes a village to raise a child and through sponsorship from other people and companies, we can help the kids. Any contribution will be appreciated,” said Mabaso.
