SPONSORED | Miss Mpumalanga 2024 commemorates Youth Month

Bajabulise Thela honours the youth who fought for freedom in South Africa and warns today's youngsters against reckless behaviour.

Hi, I’m Bajabulise Thela, Miss Mpumalanga 2024 and the ambassador for the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER). During Youth Month, we remember the significant contributions that young people have made to the struggle for freedom in South Africa.
As we honour these efforts, it is crucial that our youth understand the importance of responsible behaviour, particularly regarding gambling and alcohol consumption. While gambling and drinking alcohol can be enjoyable, it is essential to approach both with caution and responsibility.

Here are some key points to remember:
• Gambling and drinking are for individuals aged 18 and above.
• Gambling is a game of chance, and the odds are often not in your favour.
• If you feel gambling is becoming a problem, contact the National Responsible Gambling Programme at 0800 006 008 for assistance.
• Make choices that are right for you, regardless of what others are doing.
• Never drink and drive. Always have a plan for getting home safely if you’ve been drinking.
• If you are struggling with alcohol addiction, contact the South African National Council in Alcoholism and Drug Dependence on 011 836 2460 for assistance.

Let’s commemorate Youth Month by making informed, responsible choices and looking out for one another. Together, we can create a safer and healthier community.
