With stock theft and cross-border crime on the rise in this subregion, the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, in collaboration with the KwaLugedlane Tribal Authority, the SAPS, Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM), the SANDF, the Nkomazi Paralegal Services Hub, and other stakeholders will host a community outreach programme.
Scheduled for June 22 at the Steenbok Community Hall, this essential campaign is aimed at giving local farmers and community members an opportunity to directly interact with authorities regarding stock theft, cross-border crime and other crime-related issues affecting society.

According to the chairperson of the KwaLugedlane Tribal Authority’s council, Sibusiso Nkuna, farmers have been hard hit by crime and this event will serve as an opportune platform for various stakeholders to explore practical solutions to the prevailing challenges.
Nkomazi is flanked by both Mozambique and the Kingdom of eSwatini’s borders, and its geographical location renders it susceptible to cross-border crime.
“We appreciate the progressive initiative of the department and various stakeholders, because we cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the numerous vehicles and cattle that find their way across our borders. It remains our view that solutions can be obtained through collaborative efforts,” said Zenzele Nkosi, chairperson of the Nkomazi Paralegal Services Hub.

Some of the dignitaries expected to attend the campaign include the MEC for community safety, the NLM’s Speaker, Cllr Hilda Nyambi, and the KwaLugedlane Tribal Authority’s leadership.
