SPONSORED | Hi-Tech Security’s mascot gets his name

Introducing Champ, the Hi-Tech Eagle.

The name suggestion came from a loyal customer and Lowvelder, Quinten Kühn, who won Hi-Tech Security’s competition to find a name for the company’s new eagle mascot. Kühn found out he had won last Thursday, June 6, and Hi-Tech also awarded him a cash prize of R5 000.

Speaking to Lowvelder at Hi-Tech’s Mbombela offices last Friday, Kühn said he had not expected to win when he entered, and that it was a nice surprise to learn he was the winner.

He went on to say the name pays homage to Hi-Tech Security’s roots and history, which is why he chose it. “When Hi-Tech first started out, the company would drive through town in Nissan Champ bakkies with Hi-Tech-branded stickers on,” said Kühn.
“It was with that in mind that I chose the name ‘Champ’.”

Hi-Tech Security’s managing director, Frank Swanepoel, said the name stood out in the over 500 entries the company had received, and it was chosen because it had substance and had the company’s history in mind. “Hi-Tech Security has grown immensely since the days it used the Champ bakkies, and the new name of our eagle mascot is a nice nod to the company’s roots.”

Swanepoel said the company would be making use of the mascot as much as possible, and that Lowvelders would be seeing Champ regularly at various intersections around town as well as major upcoming events.

He said Champ had made appearances at i’langa Mall and the Lowveld Air Show, and that he would also be seen around the Innibos Lowveld National Arts Festival that will be held in Mbombela from June 27 to 30.
