Bella’s Athletics Club holds send-off party at Mataffin Farms for its Comrades Marathon runners

There are 66 club runners who will compete in the ultramarathon and the athletics club wanted to prepare and support them through this send-off.

Bella’s Athletics Club held Comrades Marathon send-off party for its members on Saturday May 25 at Halls Farm.
They came together in support of the 66 club runners who will be participating in the long-distance endurance race.

According to www.comrades.com it is an “up run”, starting at the Durban City Hall and finishing in Pietermaritzburg. The race distance is approximately 85.9km. It is widely regarded as the world’s oldest and greatest ultramarathon – South Africa’s most inclusive sporting event.

Sibusiso Mogale.

Sibusiso Mogale, a former Paralympian swimmer who travelled the world to compete in various swimming events, was one of the guest speakers. During his speech he shared his life journey and how his determination resulted in him representing South Africa.

“Brick by brick and slab by slab, as we lay our foundation in our lives there are obstacles that we come across and some of those obstacles come in a form of human beings. Those human beings on purpose are willing to disturb your journey, in whatever you want to succeed in, whether it is a business or if you want to be the best runner.

“Our problem is that we complain too much, because we do not realise the potential that we have. Was it necessary for me to be here today? I am standing in front of people who are abled but they are inspired by someone who doesn’t have arms,” he explained.

On the day the runners received some gifts as a way to wish them well.
