Select committee hosts feedback session in Thembisile Hani Local Municipality

During this session they gave feedback on issues raised in parliament from people living with disabilities.

The Select Committee for Women, Youth, Children and People Living with Disabilities held a feedback session in Thembisile Hani Local Municipality on Friday May 17.
This feedback session was hosted by the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.

Mohita Latchminarain, the committee’s chairperson, said the aim of the session was to get some feedback on issues raised in the Parliament for people living with disabilities in 2022.

“The issues include, among others, reaching the 2% target of people living with disabilities being employed, and the inclusion of people living with disabilities in supply chain processes. Representatives from the departments of health, social development, co-operative governance and traditional affairs, and public works, roads and transport, gave feedback on issues affecting their departments,” she said.

She said several people living with disabilities took full advantage of the platform and requested these departments to treat them with respect.
They raised many issues, which include the immediate need for sunscreen for people living with albinism, as well as translating documents into Braille for those living with blindness.

The committee members shared their sentiments on some of the issues raised by the public and made a commitment that they would bring this to the attention of the relevant departments.

Latchminarain directed the department representatives to ensure that they submit updated comprehensive reports to the committee by May 27.
