Miss World SA inspires the youth in her Bushbuckridge community

Dr Claude Mashego visited a school in her home town with the aim to inspire and bring a better change for the youth.

Love or loathe her, but Miss World South Africa, Dr Claude Mashego, continues to inspire many young girls, especially those from deep rural areas and disadvantaged family backgrounds. This drop-dead beauty gifted with brains played host to the opening leg of the worldwide Miss World’s Beauty with a Purpose tour on Monday May 13 at Thulamahashe.

Beauty with a Purpose is Miss World’s social responsibility programme that motivates reigning queens to create or support important charity causes around the globe.

This time around, the world tour kicked off in Mpumalanga, and Mashego hosted Miss World 2023 Krystyna Pyszkova and her six continental queens, Miss World Asia, Yasmina Zaytoun from Lebanon, Miss World Africa Lesego Chombo from Botswana, Miss World Oceania Kristen Wright from Australia, Miss World Caribbean Aché Abrahams, representing Trinidad and Tobago, Miss World Europe Jessica Ashley Gagen from the United Kingdom, and Miss World Americas Leticia Frota from Brazil, as well as Julia Morley, the chairperson and CEO of the Miss World Organisation, who organises Miss World.

Supported by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency, Bushbuckridge Local Municipality and the Miss World South Africa, Mashego, who has been engaged in a number of community upliftment programmes, took her campaign to her home town where she and the other beauty queens visited Orhovelani High School and Tintswalo Hospital.

“I am excited to be reunited with my Miss World sisters and to take them on a visit to my province to see the people and the place that shaped the woman I am today,” she said.

“I want to inspire every young girl out there that every dream is valid. I am a perfect example that it does not matter where you come from, as long as you work harder to achieve your dreams and keep the faith, anything is possible.

One of the key reasons why I chose this school is to help bring it back to its former glory, and to supply it with resources. We have already helped build a library in the school and donated books and computers. We are currently working with the department to help change and transform the school into a comprehensive one, and possibly include technical subjects into the curriculum.”

Orhovelani is one of the few high schools in the province with a vast and rich history in terms of producing academics. It has been home to a number of notable struggle icons.

“The Miss World South Africa Organisation is excited that Miss World and the six continental queens are here to support our Beauty with a Purpose projects and celebrate the traditions and culture of our people in Mpumalanga, along with the area’s scenic beauty and excellent game viewing,” said Carol Bouwer, the licence holder and president of Miss World South Africa.
