City of Mbombela rolls out services for Pienaar citizens

The mayor, Cllr Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko, officially opened much-needed tar roads to elevate the state of the fast growing township.

The City of Mbombela continues to roll out necessary services to its citizens.

This became evident when the City’s executive mayor, Cllr Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko, officially unveiled a new road project in the Pienaar area on Friday May 3.

The state-of-the-art roads, that stretch over a combined 4km, were constructed and handed over in record time.

A number of major projects are going at a snail’s pace elsewhere in the province, while others are completely abandoned due to a number of factors, including community members demanding business and economic opportunities in those projects.

Makushe-Mazibuko said she was impressed by both the contractors and community members for creating a conducive environment for work to be done without any challenges and hiccups, as witnessed in other parts of the province.

“What we have witnessed here as demonstrated by both the contractors and community members is encouraging and worth mentioning. This is the kind of partnership we expect from all our communities, because at the end of it all, the projects are there to benefit them,” she said.

She said the City is hard at work delivering services as per the mandate given to them by the communities.

“We are continuing with our work of delivering services as mandated by the people of Mbombela. For the past two weeks we have been going around Mbombela handing over projects that were completed, and that is a sign that as a municipality we are forever on the ground, working. And so, anyone who wants to see our work must come to our communities where the ordinary citizens are and see for themselves. We are not here to grandstand, but to do what we were voted for by the people, and that is delivering basic services,” she continued.

About two weeks ago, the City handed over some new community halls and bridges in the Hazyview zone and Matsulu.

“This is just the beginning. We will be going around the Nsikazi area and Umjindi, and cover the entire Mbombela where work has been done and completed,” she added.

With about 45 wards in this municipality, Makushe-Mazibuko said they deliver services based on each community’s needs.

“The priority is based on what the communities request. Some need roads, while others tell us they need community halls. At times it becomes a challenge to cover all our wards all at once, but rest assured that we are definitely coming and we shall not dare fail in this mandate to provide all our communities with better services they so deserve,” she said.
